Mother's Day celebrations this year will be different with quarantining and social distancing measures in effect. A simple and beautiful homemade gift idea is the right way to brighten the mood, and to show your mom that she's on your mind. DIY expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault is sharing her guide to making your own Mother's Day care package: Materials You’ll Need:
  • 100% cotton tea towels
  • T-shirt transfer paper
  • ink jet printer
  • iron (empty water)
  • scissors
  • kid art or photos
Step-By-Step Directions:  1. Scan or snap a photo of kid art, and crop/ edit/ adjust as needed on your computer (*If your image has writing, be sure to flip to mirror image so it isn't backwards when you transfer it) 2. Using an inkjet printer, print the images from your computer onto the the transfer paper 3. Cut out each image, but keep a small rounded edge around it 4. Make sure all water is removed from your iron and turn off steam setting, and then heat to cotton setting  5. Place a smooth, ironed pillow case on a hard surface (preferably wood and not a soft ironing board) which will be your work area 6. Place the tea towel on the work surface and then place the transfer image face down in the desired location 7. Place the iron on the transfer, applying firm pressure slowly from left to right and top to bottom 8. Be sure the iron covers all edges 9. Turn the iron off when finishes, and allow the transfer to cool for 2 minutes 10. Slowly peel the paper backing paper away from top to bottom (*if image begins to lift, reapply iron and allow to cool again before removing backing) 11. Wait 24 hours before washing with colour safe detergent, and tumble dry on low heat

The top 10 flicks to watch this Mother’s Day

Our top 10 flicks to watch this Mother’s Day What should you do this Mother’s Day beyond the flowers, cards, and gifts? Curl up with your family and press play! Without further ado (in no particular order), we present our top Mother’s Day-inspired movies to watch on her special day. 1. Mamma Mia! If your mom is a big ABBA fan, this one is for her. Mamma Mia explores the story of a mother and her free-spirited, bride-to-be daughter looking for her birth father. This musical will have you and your mom singing along, laughing, and maybe shedding a couple tears. 2. Freaky Friday I will give you the option of whether you watch the 1976 original or the 2003 remake as both are pretty great. With a hilarious mother-daughter soul switch, this film takes you through the hardships and lovable relationship between a mother and daughter. 3. The Sound of Music Two words: Julie Andrews. This classic follows a single woman who becomes the governess to seven children of a rough-around-the-edges Naval officer widower, Captain Georg von Trapp. After several failed attempts, she finally wins their love, including the love of The Captain. 4. Stepmom Mix a birth mother and a soon-to-be stepmother together and what do you get? Great cinema turmoil! Starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon, this film shares the story of a terminally-ill mother who must accept the idea of her ex-husband and children with another (and exceptionally younger) woman. Definitely worth a watch! 5. The Parent Trap Again, you can choose which version you watch, but this film is both weepy and funny. Two teenage twins meet for the first time at camp and switch places -- all in hopes of reuniting their divorced parents. We get to follow each girl’s experience with the other parent (one finally gets to see what having a dad is like and the other gets to hang out with her mom). I’m not saying you need a box of tissues, but I’m suggesting you bring one -- just in case. 6. Steel Magnolias This list wouldn’t be complete without a tear-jerker. This all-female film delves into the (as the title suggests) strong relationships between mothers, daughters, and friends -- the perfect movie for Mother’s Day. 7. The Princess Bride Okay, I threw this one in here because I am obsessed with it. But your mom will also love it for the witty dialogue, the comedic characters, the endless-love story, and perhaps Westley and Inigo Montoya’s undeniably good looks. Swoon! 8. The Incredibles This one is for the entire family with kids of any age. This Disney classic is a definite good time with its comedic and family-oriented plot. This Super Family stresses the importance of sticking together through the easy and hard times. This one will definitely leave you all with a full heart. 9. Terms of Endearment Ahh yes, another film that will pull on the heart-strings, guaranteed. The relationship between a mother and daughter is tested over three decades of dysfunction and eventually rekindled with a tragic ending. Sounds fun, right? But really, this is a fantastic movie that you and your mom will both love. 10. Thelma and Louise Not exactly a mother-daughter bonding film, but it is certainly one you will both enjoy from the beginning to end. This film explores two women who go on the run and embrace their new-found freedom in a ’66 Thunderbird. What’s not to love? What's your fave movie to watch with your mom? The ultimate Mother’s Day menu

Being a mom is hands-down the most extensive, challenging and rewarding full-time job in the whole world. Moms work extra hard to support you and your whole family, leaving very little time for themselves. Mother’s Day is dedicated to a full day of just mom -- and rightfully so! Let’s change up the roles today, starting at breakfast. Breakfast in bed is a wonderful idea, but why stop there? We've created the ultimate Mom Menu to serve your special lady for every meal of the day. Breakfast As we already said, breakfast in bed is always a fantastic choice. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to the aroma of a warm breakfast waiting at their bedside? To get your Mother’s Day started off right, we've included breakfast selections ranging from sweet to savoury, including a quick and easy recipe if you’re running a little late: Savoury You can never go wrong with an omelette, so why not create the Perfect Omelette for your mom? This recipe can be easily tailored with her favourite omelette ingredients. For a special touch, play up the rest of the plate with some bacon and heart-shaped toast. Sweet Pancakes are a breakfast staple, but we wanted to take it up a notch (or 7) with Pancake Tacos. Just imagine: sweet peanut buttery, Nutella-covered diced fruit cradled by warm fluffy pancakes to form a perfect taco hug. The type and amount of filling you can squeeze inside is completely up to you. The opportunities are endless with this one. Quick and Easy Pressed for time? Don’t have tons of ingredients lying around? Try the Almond Butter Banana Cookies, a Banana Almond Smoothie, or Dad’s Morning Muffins for a fast, easy to make breakfast that's ready right before she wakes up!   Lunch Whether mom is hungry or still quite full from her morning meal, we have provided light, heavy, and quick and easy options that all pack in the same amount of love: Lighter If mom is still stuffed from breakfast, check out these delicious salad options that are not only healthy, but are also simple to make. Try out the Grilled Shrimp Salad or the Spiced Quinoa, Sweet Potato, Broccoli & Cranberry Salad. Heavier These hearty options will leave mom feeling the perfect amount of full. Let mom build her own wraps using ingredients she loves with the Asian Lettuce Wraps or create the Quickie Quesadillas for a Mexican flair. Quick and Easy Have a day-trip or picnic planned for mom? You can whip up these fast and tasty lunch ideas on the go. Check out the Corn, Black Bean and Mango Fandango Salad or the ultimate ALT Sandwich.   Dinner Dinner is a great way to show off what you can do. To really impress mom, start off with a quick app and move onto the main course. For ultimate freshness, prepare dinner first and make the appetizer right before serving: Appetizers Bruschetta is an appetizer essential -- but let’s fancy it up! The Butternut Squash Bruschetta is a refreshing take on the traditional recipe. The squash and tomato combo topped with crumbled goat cheese is hard to beat! For an Italian twist, try out the delightful Mini Pizza Margherita to prep mom’s stomach for the main dish! Mains At last, the main event. To really amaze mom, play up a recipe she already knows and loves. For the main dish, we suggest the Chicken Parmesan with Pasta and Italian Veggies, or go all out with the Tagliatelle with Lobster in a Saffron Cream Sauce.   Dessert A meal just isn’t complete without some dessert, am I right? As a grand finale to your Mom Menu, try out these mouth-watering options: Chocolatey Anything involving chocolate is alright in our books! These Mini Chocolate Cheescakes are the perfect option for any mom with a sweet tooth. We love the heart-shaped strawberries that top these delicious cakes. Fruity Crème brûlée may as well be called “God’s gift to the world.” Usually served at fancy, high-end restaurants for its complicated recipe and tricky technique, it is very hard to pull off without the necessary tools. Whether you own a kitchen torch or not, this recipe provides multiple options for you to create the perfect Guilt-free Fruity Crème Brûlée. Are you cooking for mom this Mother's Day?
