Embrace colour in your home décor

There are a number of ways in which you can do it, depending on what you're most comfortable with.

Is your home’s colour palette 50 shades of beige?

Well, it’s time to embrace colour, says Chatelaine design expert Samantha Pynn.

There are a number of ways in which you can do it, depending on what you’re most comfortable with. Wallpaper or paint is a great jumping-off point — you could either do a feature wall or a whole room in a vibrant hue or pattern.

Choose pieces that appeal to you — perhaps a turquoise throw pillow, or a canary-yellow lacquered box. Black adds a hint of sophistication

We appreciate that your favourite colour may be hot pink, but don’t choose the same shade throughout the room – use varying tones. A good rule of thumb is to look at the colour that sits next door on the colour wheel. For instance, yellow and orange,  or blue and green.

If you’re thinking of using wallpaper, there are a number of helpful sites to assist in determining how much you’ll need for your space. Check out the Tangletree Interiors calculator here.
