Achieving the ‘no-makeup’ look

Keeping your makeup minimalist saves time, effort, and prevents an over-the-top look.

Whether it’s for around the office or running errands on a Sunday afternoon, keeping your makeup minimal saves time, effort, and prevents an over-the-top look.  Derek Selby shared his tips for effortlessly achieving a no-makeup look.

First off, Derek recommends highlighting the eye area with a neutral or creamy white eye shadow.  Apply it in a “v” pattern from your eyebrow to the under eye area.  A little goes a long way, and it allows the light to bounce from the dark circles.  It opens up the eye area, and provides added contrast for the under-eye area.

Next, apply a beige eye shadow on your eyelids.  Derek says finding a tone that matches your skin tone is ideal.  This balances and evens out your eye lid, resulting in a smoother, polished look.

A white eyeliner or eye shadow can give you a minimal—yet impactful—look on your eyes.  Derek suggests applying it on the corners of your eyes, and using your finger to soften and blend the colour in.

For mascara, brown or black-brown mascara is a must.  Apply it only on the top lashes, giving them definition, and do not use eyeliner.

Lip gloss is too much for a no-makeup look.  Instead, to achieve a stained look, pre-apply some lip gloss on the top of your hand, and gently dab it across your lips.  Avoid using lip liner.  Derek says this will give you a sheer look, without it being over-glossy.
