DIY Floor Cushions

Materials & Tools:

Upholstery grade fabric

Scissors / Ruler / Fabric Chalk

Sewing machine

Scraps of fabric, old towels, old blankets

Quilt batting

Needle & thread

Iron

Instructions:

1) Decide on the size of your floor cushion – to make a simple cushion, consider a box like shape.

2) Cut material as follows for a box cushion with final measurements being 20 inches square and 10 inches high:

Four Pieces – 11” x 21” (perimeter panels)

Two Pieces – 21” x 21” (top and bottom panels)

Adjust your measurements to make the cushion larger or smaller – just add 1 inch for each length to allow for a half inch seam allowance.

3) Sew right sides together – half inch from cut edge.

4) Sew perimeter panels together – all four pieces sewn together forming a standing square.

5) Sew bottom panel to bottom of perimeter walls.

6) Sew two adjacent sides of top panel to top of perimeter walls.

7) Iron back along half inch of open edges.

8) Cut quilt batting to fit inside bottom of cushion.

9) Place scraps of fabric, old towels and old blankets inside cushion – folding each piece to fit nice and snug (just like packing a suitcase).

10) Cut quilt batting to fit along inside four walls of cushion.

11) Cut quilt batting to fit on top of stuffing (under top panel).

12) Using needle and thread – blind stitch top panel closed to perimeter walls.
