Running to raise strong daughters

Last week I told you about the first annual Women on the Run 5K to raise funds for our daughters. More specifically, the WOTR5K was created by Girls on the Run director Rina De Donato to support the girls’ program which offers after-school workshops on confidence, self-esteem and health.

Since the girls’ program culminates in a graduation 5K, we thought the moms should come out and represent as well!

I can tell this event is going to grow in popularity every year.

Nothing made me happier than seeing birthday girls come out with their sisters (Look for the ladies with the blue wings who “winged” me, by the way. What an honour!) and mothers run across the finish line with their daughters. While it wasn’t a competitive race, I have a problem and therefore timed myself anyway. 5K in 27 minutes. Yeah, I’m sick but at least I own it.

Enjoy the pictures and please do get your daughter involved in a local Girls on the Run program. It could be the thing that makes her think about inner strength rather than outer skinny.
