Mary: My mind needs to catch up with my body!

Body Changes

As the weight has been coming off it’s nice to reach into my closet and wear things that haven’t fit for some time. I have some really nice jeans I was looking forward to getting into again. I recently tried them on and they don’t fit the same as the last time I wore them. I was momentarily disappointed but then realized between aging and weight gain and loss, the body doesn’t always return to the way it was.

I am not disappointed; I am pleased at having lost a substantial amount of weight (no matter how it has been re-distributed!). Most importantly, I have learned how to live a healthier lifestyle and I’m proud of my accomplishments!

My mind needs to catch up with my body!

It’s funny how my mind works. Now that I have lost over 30 pounds, the size of clothes I am wearing are obviously smaller than before but for some reason it’s as if my mind hasn’t caught on to that realization.  I recently needed to get a new pair of dress pants and took a size 8 off the rack. They were too big so I tried on a 6 which were too big as well. I asked the clerk for a 4 and she said we only have a 2. I laughed to myself, “as if I will fit into a 2”! She said she’d get that size but in my mind I was thinking there is no way I’m getting into a size 2. Well I tried the size 2 pants on and lo and behold they actually fit! I told myself, these pants must have the wrong size tag. I think I looked like a deer in the headlights and I asked the sales associate if they looked too tight and the clerk said they fit perfectly! I was surprised I started by selecting a much bigger size and ended up with a much smaller size – that is the right direction to be going in!!! However I’m sure it will continue to take time to adjust to the new me that wears smaller sizes then I’ve worn in years.
