Mary, Week 11: No grains for dinner

I love that I am getting closer and closer to my weight loss goal and am feeling so great on this journey.

March 19:

I am happy to announce that at my weigh-in today I am down a total of 26 pounds! I love that I am getting closer and closer to my weight loss goal and am feeling so great on this journey. When I first started the program I thought one of the hardest things to get used to would be to not have grain with dinner. I can have grain early in the day at breakfast, lunch or for my 3pm snack but no grain after that. Looking back knowing I haven’t broken this rule, I’m happy I managed to follow this advice and I have to admit that I don’t miss the grain in the evenings. When making dinner for a family who loves their grain, I substitute a salad or vegetables while they have their grain and we all have the same main course — who has time to cook separate meals?!

One idea from Dr. Joey is to grill zucchini strips in a fry pan with a bit of olive oil and use them in lieu of pasta. This looks like pasta and tastes great — my husband ate this voluntarily with a nice homemade pasta sauce. For decades, I had grains for dinner so getting in the mindset of ‘no grains for dinner’ was the hardest part —  I now know that following this rule is totally manageable and the proof is in the results on the scale.

Looking back, I believe this rule is one of the key elements of success of the program and I encourage you to try this. It’s honestly easier than it sounds.
