How to make the ultimate (and healthy!) patio food for summer

In search for a healthy alternative to summer eats? Dr. Joey takes us through the dos and don’ts of patio dining.

Eating out on your patio in the summer does not have to include unhealthy options such as chicken wings, French fries and burgers. In fact, there are several easy-to-make summer recipes that are filled with goodness. In short – the more raw foods you eat – the better! A few examples include:

The Do’s:

  • Do eat as many raw foods as you can such as vegetables with dip, a salad, gazpacho or a wrap filled with vegetables.
  • Do seek out some protein for your meal or snack including chicken skewers, grilled salmon or eggs on top of a salad.
  • Do drink your water to ensure you are well hydrated and optimizing digestion.

The Don’ts:

  • Don’t fill your plate with deep fried foods such as French fries, chicken wings or onion rings.
  • Don’t overdo it on the sugary alcoholic beverages.
  • Watch out for portion distortion! Try eating slowly and eating smaller amounts. You may even want to have two small appetizers as your main course if you are not that hungry.
