Tis the season for holiday parties. This year, show up with a creative, thoughtful hostess gift that’s made from the heart and inexpensive. Each of these gifts costs under $20, and they’re all very easy to make.

Gift 1: Decorated Letters
Supplies needed: plain letters, washi tape, scissors, glitter, mod podge, sponge brush

How to: Cover one of the letters with a thin layer of Mod Podge, then sprinkle glitter overtop and let it dry. A few hours later, cover the glitter with another two layers of Mod Podge, and let that dry overnight. Decorate the remaining letters with washi tape, varying the style or colour as well as the angle of the tape to keep it interesting.

Gift 2: Scrabble Frame
Supplies needed: scrabble tiles, hot glue, frame, holiday stickers or decorations (optional), holiday-theme scrapbook paper (optional)

How to: Arrange your Scrabble letters in a holiday phrase and hot-glue them onto the front of a frame. Add Christmas stickers or decorations as needed, and insert a piece of festive paper inside the frame for an added touch of whimsy.

Gift 3: Holiday Shadow Box Frame
Supplies needed: shadow box, holiday trinkets, glittery paper, vinyl-cut letters, letter stickers, or a chalk marker

How to: Insert a piece of glittery paper at the back of a shadow box frame, then fill the frame with holiday trinkets. Stick vinyl-cut letters or letter stickers onto the front glass once the frame is closed, or use a chalk marker to draw your own lettering or holiday motif.

Gift 4: Mason Jar Ornaments
Supplies needed: mason jars, string, scissors, plain or holiday-themed scrapbook paper, holiday stickers or scrapbook adornments, hot glue

How to: Remove the centre of the mason jar lid, and cut a piece of scrapbook paper to match. Tie a string around the outside ring of the jar lid. Put the paper inside the ring, then put the jar lid centre behind the paper. Use hot glue around the inside edge of the jar lid centre to keep everything in place. Glue a holiday sticker or adornment on the front.
