What to feed your child based on their age

Nanny Robina helps us learn about what foods to introduce to your child at six months, nine months, one year, and two years old.

Feeding your child can be a very challenging task for a parent, but not to worry! Nanny Robina helps us learn what foods to introduce to your child based on their age.

Six months old:

When you introduce a sweet food first, it may be difficult to make your child eat anything but that! Starting with a vegetable will make things easier on you. However, if you have already introduced a sweet solid as the initial food, Nanny Robina says to keep persevering. Keep feeding your child green beans, even if he or she prefers sweet potatoes. Start with very soft and liquidy foods, and not shortly after, within a week, you can introduce thicker foods.

Nine months old:

Time to kick it up a notch! You can incorporate chunkier foods now, but be sure that they are still very very soft. Nanny Robina says to introduce these foods at your own comfort level. This is also the time to include little bits of food on the tray, such as strawberries and cheese, to get your child’s fine motor skills working.

One year old:

At this point, you’re introducing your child to many of the same foods you’re eating, but they have to be very small and soft. If you do not make the right transition at the right time, your child may reject the foods. Don’t worry if your baby doesn’t have many teeth — Nanny Robina says you needn’t worry because babies can chew almost everything with their gums.

Two years old:

Children at this age usually graze. They are always moving around and do not sit down to eat a full meal, so they usually prefer finger foods. They will eventually sit down and eat a meal with you, but try to accommodate them as best you can. At this age, they can eat all of the same foods as you are!
