DIY Elvis pop tarts

Makes 9 pop tarts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 cup butter, diced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 3 sliced bananas
  • 1 cup natural peanut butter
  • 9 slices crispy bacon

Method:

In a large bowl mix flour, salt and butter. Slowly add an egg, then milk. Knead the dough for five minutes.

Divide the dough into half and roll out into a large rectangle ‎around 10 inches x 12 inches.

Divide each rectangle into 9 x 3-4 inch rectangles

Dress bottom 9 tarts with peanut butter, bananas and bacon. Make sure you have left room around the edges to seal the pastry.

Brush the edges with egg wash and top with the remaining nine rectangles.

Place pop tarts on baking tray, brush with egg wash and bake at 350F for 20 minutes.

Can be reheated in the toaster for the ‘on-the-run’ type!
