You may have the perfect red lip and flawlessly-applied eye shadow, however Tracy Peart says that if your foundation isn’t applied properly then it’ll ruin your entire look.  She says that the most important part of your makeup is your foundation. Tracy shares helpful makeup tips with us and helps us choose the perfect foundation for our skin.

Here are some tips when applying foundation to attain the perfect look:

  • Use a foundation brush, not a sponge, when working with a sheer foundation (it picks up less of the product)
  • When using a foundation brush, move it in a downward motion so that the foundation sits on top of your skin, instead of going into it (Conversely, if you want something to go into your skin and pores, such as a cleanser or lotion, apply in an upward motion.).
  • When you are using a sponge to apply a heavier formula foundation, pat the sponge onto your skin rather than sweeping the sponge across your skin (This is known as stippling.).  Sweeping the sponge will wipe off the product, which is a waste.
  • If you’re trying a new product such as an airbrush foundation, get to know it. Try it a few times to see if it suits your skin.

If you have close-to-perfect skin and are only looking to even out skin tone, then Tracy recommends that you use a lightweight formula such as Sephora’s Teint Infusion Natural Finish Foundation. This foundation will provide you with a natural look; it is a lightweight and moisturizing foundation.

If you have oily skin, you understand how frustrating it can be when you apply great makeup, only for it to wear off in a couple of hours. This can be a big problem for some, but luckily Tracy Peart has a solution! She recommends using a long-lasting foundation such as Sephora’s 10 HR Wear Perfection Foundation. It is oil-free and is perfect for covering up scars and dark circles.  Another great perk of this type of product is that it is buildable – meaning that it can be worn as medium or full coverage. For medium coverage, use a foundation brush; for full coverage, it’s better to use a sponge.

Do you have oily skin, but don’t want too much coverage? Tracy recommends using a product such as Sephora’s Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation. Airbrush foundation can be trickier to apply, so be sure to apply this light mist to a foundation brush rather than directly onto your skin!
