How to wear the 6 hottest skirt trends for fall

Skirts of all lengths are on trend this season, and Lynn Spence teaches us which types are best for your body.

It might be getting cold, but we haven’t gotten rid of the skirts just yet! Skirts of all lengths are on trend this season, so how do you know which type is best for you? According to stylist Lynn Spence, it’s all about your legs. Many women love longer skirts because they don’t want to show off their knees, while others are more than willing to take a little bit of a risk. For most ladies, Lynn says that a skirt that’s just a little below the knee is ideal. Read on as Lynn breaks down six of the hottest trends in skirts this season, and how you can wear them:

  • Just below the knee skirt: If you’re pear-shaped, Lynn recommends going for something similar to a pencil skirt, but with that little bit of an extra give so that it moves with the body. For an office-ready look, grab a blouse and tuck it in, or if you want to take it outside, feel free to throw on a sweater. If there’s no waistband, you can slide that length down to your hips if you want it a bit longer. This look is ideal with a heel and is also good for someone who is petite.
  • High-low skirt: Regardless of whether you’re tall or short, this would be great to wear with a tall boot to continue the material all the way down. However, Lynn says not to pair this skirt with pantyhose or a heel. Anyone in the slightly-shorter department might find the length landing at mid-calf, but the look would still be perfect even with a flat tall boot to finish the rest of the leg.
  • Mini skirt: Wearing the mini can be quite risqué, especially with a bare leg. Lynn suggests pairing it with a flat bootie and a chunky sweater on top for this short fashion. Opaque tights can make the outfit look youthful.
  • Trumpet skirt: Another ideal skirt for the pear-shaped ladies out there! It holds the same length as the “just below the knee” skirt, and would create a more feminine suit with a matching jacket. With a skirt like this, you can keep the shirt tucked in or out. For shorter ladies, Lynn says to leave the blouse untucked, and if you’re tall, go for the tucked look to gain a look of height.
  • Leather skirt: A slim leather skirt with a nice top and a waist-length denim coat would go well with a pair of flats — this is a style that Lynn says can be worn by any body type. However, there’s a key tip when you’re buying a leather skirt, and that’s to buying them small because they can stretch. It’s great for casual wear and if you’re not feeling the denim jacket, go with a black cardigan. Depending on your height, this skirt could touch below or above the knee, and Lynn says it would still be a great skirt to wear.
  • Mini-split skirt: Lynn had to make a decision between the mini and the split skirt, but the question is, why not get both? So she picked up this skirt that not only has a split up the leg, there’s also a mini skirt underneath! She suggests tucking in the blouse to avoid blocking the skirt and if there’s any colour-blocking on it, keep that colour in full sight. It’s a sexy outfit that must have a heel, and you can finish this look with a short coat.
