A great sleep starts with a great mattress

If you've ever been stumped on what to look for when buying a new mattress, Kimberley Seldon has tips on how to pick the perfect one.

Want to sleep better at night? The first step is having the right mattress. If you’ve ever been stumped on what to look for when buying a new mattress, Kimberley Seldon has tips on how to pick the perfect one for your needs.

  • Select your support layer: This is the starting layer that may affect whether you’re able to sleep well or not. It contains coils and springs, depending on how firm or soft you want your support layer to be. If you share a bed with someone who tosses in bed a lot, you might want to consider heavy-pocket coil springs. They have a heavy support layer with springs packed individually under the comfort layer, so that when your partner turns over in bed, the rest of the bed won’t go with it.
  • Warm or cold comfort layers: Comfort layers are what you are actually lying on, and this will also affect how you sleep. If you tend to feel a little too warm in bed, go for a latex material to keep you cool. If you’re usually cold in bed at night, try a wool material or micro-coils.

Kimberley also recommends trying a 2-in-1 type of mattress, so if you’re feeling cold, you can turn the mattress over to lie on the wool, and vice versa.
