Choosing the right pants for your body type

Cold weather doesn't mean you have to sacrifice fashion for comfort, if you follow these pants-picking tips from Lisa Rogers.

With sweater weather here, a pair of sweats might be calling your name to get cozy in and drag yourself out the front door to your next appointment. But cold weather doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fashion for comfort, if you follow these pants-picking tips from stylist Lisa Rogers.

Try these tips as these trends make their way back into fashion this fall. Remember: Always shop in the section best meant for your body type and size. Each style of pants will be designed to look the way it should so that it won’t fit awkwardly on you.

Want a basic pant that looks good on everyone? Try one of these:

  • Classic jeans: The classic pants are back with a higher waist, and no pleats, so they won’t add size to your body.
  • Cropped skinny jeans: Get the skinny jeans that are cropped at the ankles to show off a little skin for that extra sexy flair. You can wear something longer or fuller on top, and finish the look with a heel or flat.

Sometimes you might have to pick and choose your battles with fashion depending on your taste and size, so here are a few more pant styles you can try:

  • Gaucho pants: If you’re pear-shaped, these pants are worth trying out. Try to avoid ones with a cuff at the bottom, a patch pocket or anything else that might add size. Finish this look off with a heel, giving your leg a full look with some length.
  • Track pants: They’ve made it into fashion! Wear flats, heels, or a fashionable sneaker to make your track pants look classier and ready for a small outing.
  • Leggings: We love how comfy leggings are! Try for ones that will look a little more like pants, and top it off with a long top.
  • Pajama pants: When we think pajamas, we think loose and comfortable with fancy designs all over it. But you can take a pair of pajama-style pants and keep it simple without too much billowing. Top it off with a jacket that’ll form to your silhouette and you’re ready to head out to dinner.

Lisa also says the colour of your pants can also affect what design would be best. If you’re fuller in the hips, go with dark colours and without patterns — this will make you look smaller. Try white and light colours if you want to look more voluptuous!
