Post-partum skin care 101

After having a baby, it is completely normal for women to notice that their skin is changing.

After having a baby, it is completely normal for women to notice that their skin is changing. Perhaps it’s more sensitive, or you’re noticing dryness or irritation that didn’t exist before you became pregnant. But don’t fret! With Derek Selby‘s help, you can maintain a healthy glow both before and after baby.

If your skin shows signs of fatigue, redness, and/or breakouts, do not worry — realize that this is all temporary. Women who have just had a new baby are almost always sleep-deprived, which is one of the main factors to visible fatigue. If you find yourself falling under this category, Derek encourages you to take a nap! When you put the kids down for a nap, take one yourself. Don’t worry about what else has to be done. Lie down for 20 minutes and relax.

Derek also emphasizes the importance of using products that give you multiple benefits at once. BB creams and CC creams are great products for busy/new moms — they moisturize, hides blemishes, balance the complexion and sometimes have an SPF included. (Watch the clip below for more products that serve multiple purposes.)

Another tip Derek shares is to make time to take a shower (sounds easy, but not so much when you have a wailing child to care for!). Bring the little one into the bathroom with you in the morning, in their car seat or a chair they can’t fall out of if need be, and take a shower. Then, apply a facial product of your choice (preferably a multi-use product, even if it’s just a light face cream) and you will instantly feel better.

The bottom line to fixing all of this is that you are tired and need your beauty sleep! And don’t worry, it will come!
