9-to-5 work wear

As we shift seasons and you begin to dig out your fall work wear, you’ll be happy to know that you don’t have to dress in the same old business suit day after day. Chatelaine’s Tyler Franch stopped by Cityline to share a few of his suggestions on how to add some flair to your office wardrobe, including finding those unique and funky items that will make any outfit.

Colours are really popular this year: Rest assured, this trend will carry over to the fall.  Consider pairing coloured pants with a “swacket” – comfortable enough to be a sweater; classy enough to be jacket or blazer.  They’re soft, stylish, and most importantly – practical.  It’s not too dressed-down, but it’ll feel great.

If you’re a denim lover, don’t fret: Invest in a fitted denim jacket.  Paired with polka-dot flats, you’re ready to seamlessly transition from a comfortable day at work to a classy night on the town.

Pair up something you know flatters your shape with something classic: Franch recommended a weekend military jacket with a little black dress, tied together with a black belt – giving some shape and definition to the outfit.  This outfit won’t be appropriate for every workplace, but if it’s acceptable where you are, it can be a very flattering look.

Step outside your comfort zone, with something daring such as patterned pants: Patterned pants represent the evolution of the coloured pant. Matched with a simple blouse and blazer, this is almost a fail-proof formula to bring some style to your workplace.
